so, as some of you may know, i'm a licensed cosmetologist and hair/makeup has been a big part of my life ever since i was young.
you don't need expensive makeup, creams, shampoos, etc to stay pretty.
you just need a routine regiment, stay strict with keeping you skin clean, and just basic common sense.
i'm not going to go too into depth (i plan on posting makeup and hair tutorials later on) but i thought i'd post some basic and easy tips to keep you bitches fierce.
(and yes, cosmos IS my real last name. funny huh? cosmos the cosmetologist, wuddup.)
[ SKIN... ]
- remember, WASH YOUR FACE EVERRRY NIGHT! sleeping with your makeup is HORRIBLE, it's basically like you're letting bacteria build up for hours and hours on your face, which rubs off onto your pillow, which is a vicious cycle of breaking out. it's the easier way to dodge pimples. you DO NOT need expensive face cleansers, personally i use "clean & clear" which works better for me than proactive. i wash my face every morning also, just to clean up before you apply makeup. don't over do it on the washing though, it will dry you out. always use a moisturizer (unscented and spf) afterwards.
- when you DO wash your face, use warm water (opens the pores), use a toner afterwards, and then WASH again with cold water (closes the pores back up)
- my best advice about foundation is, DON'T USE IT. the less you use it, the less you break out, the less you NEED it. i prefer mineral powder myself, some brozer and blush, and you're done. cake face is nasty and only for trannies. boys don't like that shit girls. i would avoid concealers at all costs, if you have dark circles etc, dab a little foundation instead, you're pores will thank you.
- try to use a mud mask once a week, and glycolic mask every 2 weeks.
- make sure you are alternating and washing your towels that you use to wash your face, don't use hand towels. it's nastay. you're wiping that shit on your face boo.
- honestly, i'm not a huge fan of MAC foundation/powders. it's intended for photoshoots and not to be worn for a long period of time, i know many girls who work for MAC and do the whole cake face thing and they have bad skin because of it. the eyeshadows on the other hand are good but you don't need to pay top dollar for good shadows.
- use common sense and try to NOT touch your face. always wash your hands (common sense) it will keep you healthier in general. if you smoke cigarettes, try to be aware of if when you're puffin, you're not touching your chin/lips/etc. most people who smoke break out around their mouth because of this. esp if you eat greasy foods, your wiping that shit on yo face gurl.
- while applying moisturizer, give your face a little 2 minute facial by using 2 fingers and doing circular motions UPWARDS (think "face lift") it will give you a nice glow and stimulate the blood cells. don't do it too fast and rush thru it, it should be enjoyable.
- never pile on makeup, you need to wash and moisturize everytime before you put something on there. and remember, less is better. guys don't like caked on trannies, kay girls? the natural look is in, and you will start to realize you look better without it and feel more comfortable without having it on.
- try to wear makeup ONLY when you need it... stupid idea: wearing makeup at the gym, or going running/doing physical activity. DUH, makeup + sweat = bacteria/pimples.
- DON'T EAT IN BED! crumbs and grease will end up on your face and make you break out. i love eating in bed (haha lovely no?) this is a bad habit i need to break myself. try to keep animals out of your bed too, your rolling around their dander and bacteria. i love sleeping with my kitty so this is a hard one to preach when i don't think i can ever break it :(
- along with that, change/wash your sheets and pillowcases as much as possible, try to change it atleast once a week. (TRY to do this twice a week) and if you sleep with animals, i would recommend doing this EVERY OTHER DAY.
[ HAIR... ]
- the same goes with hair about the "warm water/cold water" i was talking about with skin, shampoo and condition with warm water to open up the follicles, and rinse with cold when you're about to hop out of the shower, it will close the follicles and leave a nice shine on your hair.
- shampoo wise, you don't need a lot, and make sure you focus on shampooing the SCALP, not really focusing so much on the ends. lather up good and your scalp will love you if you give it a little massage. wash it out as soon as possible, don't leave it on there because shampoo is high on pH. (speaking of pH, do NOT use "head and shoulders" or "pantene" products because they are bad for your hair, and high in pH.)
- conditioner wise, focus on the ends. you only need a quater size amount. again, try to give your scalp a little massage every time you wash your hair, it will lead to a healthier scalp which makes for better hurr. try to leave it on while you shave, etc. remember, rinse with cold water.
- don't wash your hair everyday, it wants those natural oils to regenerate once and a while.
- i AVOID blow drying and straightning at all costs. try to air dry as much as possible, and only straighten if you REALLY need it or you have a special event. same goes with the curling iron.
- when using thermal products, you DON'T need to blast it all full capacity (don't go over 400 degrees) you are frying your poor hair :(
- if straightening, curling, and blowdrying, it will be more effective if you do it small sections at a time. start at the bottom and pin up the rest of the hair and work your way up.
- with blowdrying, the most effective way is to get the scalp 80% dry (if you blow dry style) just put your fingers thru your hair and tassle it around while moving the blowdryer side to side, and get that scalp dry. then if you want to style with a brush, use smaller sections.
OK so there ya go bitches, hope this helps some of you out :)
